“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Cor. 4:18.
It's so easy to think others around you have a beautiful life while yours is substandard. Someone made this illustration, it will bless you: I saw a lovely girl with golden hair, I envied her, she seemed so happy – I wished I were as fair. When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle; She had one leg and wore a crutch; but as she passed, I smiled and pleaded with the Lord to forgive me when I grumble and complain comparing myself with others because I lack a complete picture of the situation. He spoke further: “I stopped to buy some sweets, from a lad who had such charm. I wished my life was as colourful as his. He seemed so blessed and put together, no worries, I thought. But as I was leaving, he said to me, “Thank you. You’ve been so kind.” “It’s nice to talk with folks like you. You see,” he said, “I’m blind.” Now you see he had envied this young man, until he realised that he was blind. We must be careful, how we see life and what we complain about, we are called to a life of faith not complaint.
Faith is trusting in God, but we are not called to have blind faith – we are called to have faith in God’s Word. Christian faith does not depend upon our feelings, which are always changing, but on the facts of what God has done and promised. ‘Imagine being lost is the dessert and having a compass with you. You could do one of two things: You could rely solely on your sense of direction to tell you which way to go or you could rely on the needle of your compass pointing north. No matter how strongly you ‘felt’ about which direction to take, you’d be stupid to trust in your feelings over and above your compass. Why? Well, because our feelings go up and down depending on our mood. Feelings are important, but we must not rely only on our feelings. We must instead rely on God’s promises which do not change; we must rely on the Word of God, because God does not change. North is always north.
As believers, we are given sight by God, we are given faith by God. We must know where and when to use faith and to use sight. Human vision only sees immediate circumstances and what is in front of us. The Bible indicates that what is visible is temporary, while the spiritual, unseen reality is eternal. Relying on sight means letting feelings, experiences, and fear dictate decisions. Difficult situations might make it seem like God is absent, but faith recognizes He is working behind the scenes. Walking by faith allows believers to override natural limitations, such as fear, poverty, or sickness. It means trusting that God is in control and will bring all things together for good, even when the future is unclear. This way of living prioritizes spiritual obedience over immediate comfort. It involves looking beyond distractions to focus on God's kingdom. Selah!

DECLARATION:
Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, as this year winds down, I come before You asking for an increase in my faith. Your Word instructs me to walk by faith and not by sight. I confess that I often allow my emotions, fear, and current circumstances to dictate my steps. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit to help me trust in Your unseen presence, even when the way forward is unclear. Open the eyes of my heart to see You working in my life, and help me to stop focusing solely on what I can see in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
